Armenia has many wonderful monasteries to visit. This is a collection of just a few that we were able to explore.

Aktala Monastery

Aktala Monastery is located in the northeast section of Armenia halfway between Alverdi and Noyemberian.

Etchmiadzin Monastery

This is the heart of the Armenian Church. It is located near Yerevan.

Haghartsin Monastery

Haghartsin Monastery is near Dilijan in the north central part of Armenia. The Dilijan area is regarded as the "Little Switzerland" of Armenia.

Haghpat Monastery

Across the canyon from our home in Alaverdi, we could see Haghpat.

Kobayr Monastery

Kobayr monastery is located in the northeast section of Armenia on the Debed River. It is a short hike up the hill to get to it.

Nora Monastery

Just a short drive from Yeghegnadzor, Nora can be found nestled in the warm canyons of the area.

Odzun Monastery

Odzun is in Odzun Village, one of the largest villages in Armenia. The village is located near Alaverdi.

Sanahin Monastery

Our favorite monastery that we visited. Only a 10 minute walk from our apartment, we spent a lot of time here.

Sevan Monastery

This monastery use to be a boat ride away, but with the lowering of the lake water level, you can access it by foot and car.

Tatev Monastery

Tatev offers some dramatic views from it's perch on the cliffs. It is located in southern Armenia.

Zvarnots

Zvarnots is not a monastery but an old temple. It is found near Yerevan.
